Pomegranate Basil Sparkler

Liz The Austinite poppin' champagne bottle #poplizclink

Happy Monday y’all!

Those of you who know me know that I am a sucker for a good glass of bubbly, so I can’t think of a better way to kick off my week than by sharing my first ever (yay!) “Pop Liz Clink” cocktail recipe with all of you. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me use the #poplizclink hashtag, and now you know what it’s all about – I’ll occasionally be posting my favorite sparkling cocktail recipes on this blog.

Today I’m making a Pomegranate Basil Sparkler. It’s super simple and very pretty – the best kind of cocktail – and it’s the perfect drink to transition you from summer into fall. I chose pomegranate as it’s in season right now and because it adds a deep pop of color. If pomegranate isn’t your thing, you can always swap it out for another fruit. The other main flavor here is basil – my personal favorite herb. Try to get the freshest possible as it makes a huge difference in the flavor profile. I grow mine for maximum freshness.

Just kidding. I buy my basil at Whole Foods. Which is basically the same thing as growing it, right?!?

First, cut an orange and a lemon in half, and remove the pomegranate seeds from the fruit.

Don’t forget to rinse your fruit! I always use the Honest Company’s fruit and vegetable wash. It’s easy, effective, plus it’s all natural and toxin/chemical free.

Next – pop the champagne!

Now, pour your favorite kind of champagne or sparkling wine into an ice filled pitcher. I chose a darker sparkling rosé because that was the mood I was in, plus I love the rich color for a fall drink. However, you can easily switch it out to a regular brut variety, and then the pomegranate seeds will pop even more.

Add about a cup or so of elderflower liqueur. My personal favorite brand is St. Germain. It’s not a science here, so just add until it suits your personal preference.

Squeeze in the juice of 1 orange and half of a lemon (which simply makes the drink a little brighter and pairs really nicely with the basil).

Mix it up.

Add some sprigs of basil, pop in your pomegranate seed, and cut a wedge of orange as garnish.

If you want to pump up the basil flavor a bit more, just let some basil soak in the elderflower liqueur for about an hour or so, and then use that instead of just pouring it straight from the bottle.

And there you have it! A Pomegranate Basil Sparkler.

I’m a firm believer in dressing according to your mood. And today, I’m in a Burberry mood. That’s a thing, y’all.

I can’t think of anything more classic and timeless than Burberry – it’s one of my favorite brands. I’ve been wearing that perfume for about five years now. It’s fresh and fruity with a hint of vanilla, and the best part about it is that it can be worn year-round. If I’m being honest, the boots are a little too pricey for me to actually purchase at this point, but aren’t they pretty? I own that lovely peacoat in the navy color, and I get so much use out of it. If you’re in the market for a quality peacoat, you can’t do much better than that one in my opinion.

Happy Friday!

Leather Details

leather details are trending for fall #fashion

When I think about leather, I can’t help but flashback to the episode of Friends where Ross decides he’s going to be edgy and throws on some leather pants – if you haven’t seen it, you really should. So many LOL’s, but anyway… As I mentioned in Monday’s post, leather details are a big trend this fall season. And even if you, unlike Ross, don’t want to commit to an all leather look, this trend can still work for you.

There are so many leather accented pieces, in every price range I might add, out there for you to choose from. In the graphic above, the faux leather trimmed joggers (#2) and the sleeveless top (#9) are both from Forever 21 and are super affordable. For those willing to spend a little more, I really love the burgundy top (#5), the navy pencil skirt (#11), and the striped moto leggings (#6 – I own these and they are fab!). It’s a little pricier, but I’ve officially put the Kate Spade sweater (#10) on my wish list, as well as this Vince pencil dress (not shown above but linked below).

Which are your favorites?

I wore this look with friends a few weeks ago to a TopGolf Austin outing. We all got together to celebrate the remaining days of summer before things got busy again, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to wear this outfit. These high waisted jeans are super comfortable – I find myself wearing them all the time. I was in the mood for some stripes so I threw on this Soft Joie crop top (which is now on major sale) and a BaubleBar statement necklace (also on sale). I painted my lips to match my bag just for an extra bit of color.

And about that bag….

I’m sure y’all have been seeing the Valentino “rockstud” design everywhere. It’s super popular right now, and with good reason, seeing as how the entire line is pretty fabulous. Although the shoes are on my wish list, I didn’t want to shell out quite so much cash for a bag. After doing some serious hunting I found this Who What Wear article with a great alternative red studded clutch. I snagged it pretty quickly and it’s a good thing I did because it promptly sold out. However, there are still some good options out there for y’all in every price range. Of course, there’s the actual Valentino version, but this Rebecca Minkoff studded bag is also great for a fraction of the price. If that option is still too steep for you, this Halogen crossbody is a steal and will still give you that punch of red and the gold detailing.

XOXO,

Last Wednesday I enjoyed a long lunch for a fashion show event at Neiman Marcus hosted by Merritt Beck of The Style Scribe. Champagne and fall fashion – sign me up! Not only was there some great style inspiration, but I also got to meet fellow Austin bloggers Lauren (from Make It A Double Please) and Miro (from Dose of Dash). They’re both just lovely.

The looks on the models above are just a sampling of my favorites from the show. They were all pulled by Merritt and her sister Alexandra (a stylist at Neiman’s in Austin). A few things of note from the show:

Below you can shop my look, which was simple and preppy as I was coming from work. Also below are some items I love that are inspired from the looks in the show – some of which were worn by the models or were on the trend tables in the last two pictures above. Of course, everything is right on-trend for fall.

I hope these looks inspire you!
